Saco, ME

Well, we wanted to explore this section more fully…and we got our wish. The brake lights stopped coming on…not too good an idea when you are towing! So back in the garage. We had to go back for 20 or so miles to Saco. Every dealer except ONE couldn’t take us for a week. I told Rick this is like “getting pecked by a chicken…it doesn’t kill you but it’s darn annoying”!

The good news…the day was beautiful and we found great things to photograph…in truth it forced us to stay put and see things in depth. We drove by an incredible group of old buildings. An old railroad depot with luggage piled beside it, a log cabin…an old filling station etc and it appeared deserted. We came to a skidding halt! There was a “mansion” type house with wonderful “junk” piled all over…a buggy and fountains and all kinds of ornaments and collectable stuff. There was a buggy over by the depot, piled high with old lobster traps. And old steamer trunks piled beside the station.

We heard a tapping “somewhere” and Rick went to find out if we could photograph…and we met the most amazing man. He is collecting all the local old buildings he can find, that are about to be leveled for “parking lots”! He had three other ones already, that he had bought to move, including his great grandfather’s old barn. Like a child would build a village…he was building one real size! I asked if he had a lot of trouble getting permits and he just laughed at me…said “none of this was legal and the town thought he was crazy”. Couldn’t understand why he would want all of this old junk. This was an enormous area of property right near Kennybunkport…it’s got to be worth a fortune. He looked like a farmer and I’d guess he’s rich as Midas. And in more ways than financial…he is a man with a dream! Told us to take our time and enjoy. And we did just that.

And then we went to photograph the coast. Found the NUBBLE LIGHTHOUSE…what a beaut! And the sky behind it was blue with puffy clouds. Crawled all over the rocks, that is one thoroughly photographed lighthouse!nubble

Went back to Saco…RV just had a minor problem and it was fixed already. We found a campground in the pines…it feels like camping out here instead of being in an RV park. Sweet sweet pine scent and there is hardly anyone else here… Called Paula, our niece, and made arrangements to meet the family tomorrow. Can hardly wait!

Rick build a campfire and we sat and watched and talked and dreamed.
