Had a shock this morning when we read the paper. The “Kat” the ferry that goes from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia, collided in the fog with a lobster boat on Friday, killing the captain and injuring two crewmen. The ferry is a huge vessel, carrying 900 passengers. The reason it took us back so…was that it passed us while we were on the sailing ship Friday. At that time one of the deck hands mentioned that the “Kat” captain’ had gotten in trouble with the harbor master for coming too close to the ship we were on… and so now it steered clear”. We had just seen the beginning of a fog bank in the distance as we were pulling into the harbor….Made the accident all too real.

We took a quiet drive this afternoon, around the Schoodic Peninsula. It reminds me of Big Sur…except there are no cliffs…the ocean is right there. The beaches were pretty well deserted. They are covered with pebbles up to huge rocks. Pretty little inlets and tiny islands, covered with pine. Wonderful smell of Balsam pine and sea air. We went from one small harbor to the next. There wasn’t much activity because today is Sun. One lobster fisherman was getting his boat ready for the next day. He was on loading 25 buckets of bait for the traps. Rick helped him load on the floats. (Red colored…so nice of him to do my camera that favor!)

Came home to do laundry. So busy playing that if we aren’t careful our clothes will be able to take a vacation on their own! Stopped at a little produce stand before we got here and picked up a mess of fresh picked corn to throw on the grill…wonderful fresh fruits and veggies all over the place.

The people here have a New England accent. (Imagine that!) I married Rick because his New England accent and he lost it! Now he slips into it from time to time…and I like it!
