Ellsworth, ME

A quiet day…we woke to the sound of a gentle rain. A day just made for antique hunting. We took in all the local shops. Many are just like the antique malls down our way but one was a pleasant surprise. A house with things all over a yard and in the garage. There were a lot of things that I would have bought if not for space constraints. I found a wonderful ‘turkey gobbler’ that I’ve wanted as a table center piece on Thanksgiving…I’ve hunted all over in Calif. and never found what I was looking for until now. It was marked $18 and she said in that wonderful New England accent…”Now I can’t let this go for less then $16″! Apparently I was suppose to bargain and since I didn’t know how…she did it for me! We had a nice conversation with the couple. They were saying that few people of their neighbors in Maine travel because so many are self employed and just can’t take the time. “Work is all we know”. And social security is all the pension they will receive….”But we’re doing all right”! She said we were” the first customers of the day” and her husband had said…”If the first ones here buy…it’ll be a good day!” I’m glad we ‘made their day’…because they made mine!

Hot sea food chowder on a chilly day…heaven! If we keep this up we’ll be able to swim home!
