Exploring Country Roads

Last night we got treated to the ‘backside’ of a weather event. The area southeast of us was pounded hard…wind, rain, hail up to 4 inch size and tornado warnings. In San Antonio the news broadcast showed windshields cracking with the force of the hail.

We stood outside, after dark, with our neighbors Don and Mary (weather radio in hand) and watched the clouds light up from the other side. The fury of the storm lit the clouds with ripples and flickers of light with occasional bolts of lightning peeking though. I wonder how many ‘eons’ have passed while people stood, like us, and watched with fear and fascination the fury of a storm?

We drove almost 200 miles today…exploring country roads. The green hillsides, flower covered pastures, the deer grazing and wild turkeys calling…around ever corner was a new sight. The rivers are high and beautiful…trees hanging over the banks and little waterfalls spilling over rocks. There were a lot of warning signs about high water. The streams did often come right up to the edge of the road and you could see where during a rain it would be a problem.

I had my arm out the car window all day…now I don’t need a light, I can write this by the ‘glow’ emanating from it!
