The “Big Bang” in Benson,Az

Last night we went out to the Saguaro National Park. What magnificent cacti…a single Saguaro Cactus can weigh up to 10,000 pounds. That’s how much water they they are able to store. We saw a picture of a giant one that had fallen on a car…smashed that baby flat!

As twilight deepened we walked to an overlook and watched the sun go down. There was just the soft whisper of desert sounds and the ‘giants’ standing stark against a pale pink sky.

This morning we said “Good bye” to Tucson and cast forth to see the world. About 50 miles down the road there was a loud ‘BANG’ …the RV swerved and the smoke poured. The tread had seperated on the right front tire…and boy did that baby blow

We have an ‘SOS’ cell phone. It costs $9.95 a month and will dial police, fire, and auto club anytime at no cost. Rick had to climb up the hill to send out a ‘smoke signal’…but help DID arrive!

We drove on into Benson…to discover there were no tires to be found in this little town. We located an RV park and then took the car back into Tucson to pick up our new tire. It was irritating but that rather pales next to what we might have had to deal with…had circumstances been different!

I wish we were closer to Las Vegas tonight…I’m feeling LUCKY!
