Photograph of the day

It’s no wonder I never miss TV with the panorama of weather I see changing constantly out my window. The usual summer pattern here is blue skies filled with drifting puffy clouds in the mornings. And as late afternoon draws near the thunderclouds start to build…Then dark clouds and rain and wind…and then a glorious sunset. The scene is never the same minute-to-minute and I never tire of it.

Last evening brought a sight I’ve never seen before and probably never will again. There was a rainbow…not just any old rainbow. This one was a full double arch and it just stayed and played. We chased it and photographed it all over the valley for an hour. We would drive along and the bottom of it would move just ahead of us, touching the ground. What ever was behind it, trees, canyons, buildings, etc. were colored with a shimmering light. It was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. Cars were pulling over on the side of the road and people tumbling out…just watching in wonder.
