Dillion Rodeo

It was a windy trip to Dillion but we forged on. We wanted to get one last rodeo under our belt, and this one is one of Montana’s biggest.

We plunked down $30 bucks for ‘chute’ seats and it was worth it. They consist of a tiny bleacher with seats straight up over the chutes, with the wild horses and bulls milling around under us! The bleachers were swaying in the wind and it did occur to me “if this goes down at least we won’t hit the ground…just animals with poor dispositions”!

There were a number of world class riders and it was quite a show. I was really fascinated with the horses and bulls being run and sorted for the chutes just beside and below me.

People worry about the animals being hurt but it looked to me more like the humans were in danger! I saw more than one cowboy leap to the side of fence just seconds before horns caught him. The bulls are contrary critters…rolling their eyes, snorting and pawing the ground…just aching to ‘hang a horn’ on a cowboy!

There were times when what was going on beside me was as exciting as what was going on in the arena.

Those cowboys deserve a lot of credit…for unseen bravery!
