Virginia City Visit

What a gorgeous day! We went on a long rambling drive through beautiful countryside. An ‘eye stretching’ day! It seemed like you could see forever.

We had lunch in Virginia City at the neatest restaurant, called the ‘Roadmaster’. It’s the site of the old garage. There is a 1957 Buick Roadmaster up on the old ‘lift. The booths are made from cars. An amazing amount of work has gone into the renovation. We arrived the day AFTER Labor Day…it wasn’t in the least crowded! The waitress said she had been pulling days of “doubles” and now…peace and quiet!

Virginia City in 1863 was the site of one of the largest gold strikes in the west. Unlike Bannock, which has been left in an untouched state, much as it was in the 1800’s, Virginia City has been commercialized. A lot of the old buildings remain and the history is fascinating. It is still quaint and retains much of the old west flavor.
