Portland, OR

Today, we said, “We enjoy flowers…let’s take a walk through Portland’s world famous Rose Gardens”. Rick bought a map I looked up main points of interest and found “Rose Garden” and off we went. We searched and we looked. Rick kept saying “I thought this was on the other side of town” I kept thinking ” They have a rose garden in the industrial district?” But we kept seeing parking…”Rose Garden” so we kept looking. Finally we see it. A huge sports arena with the words “Rose Garden” on it! Ahhhhhh…back to the drawing board.

“The zoo”, we said, we know where the zoo is and off we went…again. The Oregon Zoo has a nifty area called the Alaska Tundra that has the animals in natural enclosures without bars…wonderful for photography. The Grizzlies were up and on the prowl. Man, I wouldn’t want to meet one of those babies in a dark alley. (or a dark woods! ) I am reading a book on the ‘Lewis and Clark Expedition ’. The first time they encountered a Grizzly…they shot it 10 times, 5 of the shots through the eye…before it would stop charging after them!7_7_new_bear
