Just before we left Portland I had a visit with a neighbor. They had sold a huge house and bought their first RV…a 24 foot class A. She was missing her friends, grieving for her house and to make matters worse, for the past 2 months they had been stuck inside this small rig because it was wet and cold. She said that she had cried everyday for the whole time. Then as she went on…she said her husband was a ‘new man’ He had stopped smoking…started socializing, was up for anything etc, etc. I asked her if a “new” husband wasn’t worth more then an old house. You could see her gears grinding. ” Yes! and now that the weather has turned sunny…..( Hummmm maybe the ‘winter time blues’ are about to lift! ) Rick and I wondered why they hadn’t just come on down to Southern CA…but each to their own.

Talking to her made me grateful we had taken the time to customize the rig. Even in bad weather it is now much more livable. The easy chair is sooo comfy and the new bright reading light makes a big difference. And the workspace Rick build is wonderful!…the computer….what a joy and what a toy! It adds such dimension to our travels. The fact that I can write a journal is so much fun. We feel ‘close’ to the people we care about through E-mail…it takes away so much worry about the ones we ‘leave behind’ when we are in such constant touch.

The drive through the Columbia Gorge is beautiful but it changes to gold grass covered hills past The Dalles…It was a long drive and I’m tired tonight.
