Strasburg, PA.

Woke up to the sound of rain. In the RV it isn’t * just* pitter patter on the roof…it’s bong on the plastic vents and tinkle on the tin vents. A regular calliope of sound…wonderfully cozy to listen to…while you are cuddled in your warm bed! I watched several campers scurry around in the pouring rain…trying to get their rigs hooked up and get on the road…While I snuggled down a little deeper. (grin)

We have chosen to stay here over the Columbus Day holiday…be Monday before we pull out. We have the last available spot in this campground and other campgrounds are calling here to see if they have space for their “turn aways”. Don’t want to get caught with no place to pull in. And tonight is supposed to be heavy fog. What a feeling…to have no schedule to meet! No one on the other end…saying “You’re supposed to be back to work!” This IS retirement…this feeling.

We drove around in the rain…plugged along behind Amish Buggies on back country roads. And looked at crafts. I’d finished the novel I was reading and I wanted to buy a book. Saw a sign “Bookstore” so we pulled in. Ver r r y interesting. It was on the side of what turned out to be an Amish house. And the store really was for Amish…not tourists! A lot of bibles and children’s books and books on farming and school supplies …not exactly the “who dun it” I was looking for! There were no lights, of course, except for the dim rainy day light coming in the windows. Like shopping in Wal Mart during a black out! ( grin ) But it gave me a chance to chat with a sweet little Amish girl that was tending shop. And I did find a card to buy.

Found another Buffet…better then yesterdays! Okay…so that’s really why we are staying. (grin) Here the servers were Amish as well as a good many of the customers. That’s a great tip off that you are in for a treat!

Spent time in a fun shop…called the ‘Outhouse’. It’s got the funniest animation’s all over the store. A sign on a bear that says “Don’t touch the nose”… If you do touch it the bear draws his mouth back into a snarl and growls..” Didn’t it say don’t touch my nose”?!” And a full sized outhouse…if you open the door there is an old lady sitting there that screeches “Shut the door…quit looking at me!” At the top of her voice, while the other shoppers look over at you! Just funny signs and sayings all over the place.

We are parked in an open woods…at the top of a tall hill. I can see the clouds drift in and out of the trees…probably the fore runner of the predicted fog. It looks so dark and mysterious… Feels good to be safely in for the night… we have the TV connected…we’ll fix popcorn and watch ER after a bit.
