Moving Day

We moved down into Lowell to be close to Rick’s woodcarving seminar. It’ll take him about 40 minutes each day to drive into War Eagle.

When we were hooking up the park owner said he” hoped the weather would calm down.” It seems a couple of days ago a severe hailstorm hit the park and badly damaged all the RVs staying here! (Gulp) He said “the insurance adjusters were going crazy.”

All Alone

Rick left at the crack of dawn this morning for the seminar. It’s bright and sunny outside but that does not keep this ‘city girl’ from peering at the horizon…. waiting for a sneak attack from a hail storm!

Carving Classes

This week Rick is taking classes from Harold Enlow…one of the best , if not THE best of the Ozark caricature carvers.

When Rick came home these last two nights he was all excited over a ‘smile’ or an ‘ear’ or a ‘nose’ that Enlow had taught him to do…Ah, the excitement of learning. Now, instead of reading one of the books by Enlow on his bookshelf, Rick’s able to ask specific questions…and he’s having a ball.

This is a laid back part of the country. We ran across this little ‘filling station’…that stands frozen in time. Do I hear a little echo saying “Let me get those windows for you, Sir. Can I check under the hood ?”

I wish 14 cents /gallon really was the price of gas today. We’ve been paying around $1.60/gallon.

We try to photograph as many of these little pieces of ‘ Americana’ as we can find. They are disappearing so quickly…..
