The Great American Music Festival

Today was pure fun from beginning to end. We drove to Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri to attend ‘The Great American Music Festival’. It only lasts one week and we were lucky enough to be in the area.

You pay the entrance fee and then you can go to any place in the park and listen to any kind of music you want to hear. From musical variety in a theater, with big production effects, to a fellow and his guitar sitt’n on a bale of hay…they have it all!

From the toe tapping of my favorite Cajun Band…’The Cajun Connection’ to Big Band, to knee slapp’n country, to Texas swing, to bluegrass, to the soul stirring beat of Southern Gospel music… For 8 solid hours we went from one to the other, just dizzy with the sheer joy of listening to the best of live music. Big and small…

While we were watching a Texas band playing country swing music I was amazed, not only at how many people from the audience spontaneously got up to dance along, but who they were. It was often elderly farm folks…bent with the years, hands gnarled but still gazing into each other’s eyes with such love…still losing themselves in each other and the beat of the music.06_02_fiddler

When the Cajun folks get together for music and food…Dey calls it “Passing a good time!” That’s what we did today…passed a good time. I’m tired but oh, it was worth it… my dreams tonight will be filled with music!
