New Orleans ‘Mississippi River’

This afternoon we took a cruise down the Mississippi River on the paddle boat the Creole Queen. Just lazing back…listening to jazz, sipping a cool drink, and watching the world go by.

The captain did dock the boat so we could visit the famous site of the Battle of New Orleans (or Nawlins…as they say around these parts!)

There was a very interesting old plantation on the battlefield site that looks abandoned. We just wandered around inside. The house is only the depth of one room…the better to catch every breeze off the river. There was no inside staircase…in order to go upstairs the occupants had to use the outside steps up to the upper gallery.

Excuse me while I go sip a Mint Julep on the verandah…
