‘Wichita’s Cowtown Museum’

Yesterday, while the world sat glued to their televison sets and because we were too restless to sit still…we took off and found a quiet place and dropped into a simpler time. I so love ‘living history’ museums…and this is one of the best we’ve found. The ‘Cowtown’ depicts a Kansas cattle town from 1865-1880.

There was a somber mood here today. The employees were wearing black armbands and there were almost more ‘townfolks’ dressed in costumes then there were visitors.

But, as we walked around this quiet place…I could feel the peace and it was comforting. For a few minutes at a time, I could forget a world gone mad.09_12_calf

The blacksmith couldn’t stop talking about the terrorist attack…as he pounded harder and harder on the metal he was shaping on the anvil. Methinks it wasn’t iron he was striking!

Laura cares for the ‘farm’. The livestock, the garden, the household chores. She has a great deal of serenity about her…It wasn’t hard to picture her in another time….

We needed this day….and this place, to put the world back in perspective a bit and to remember where this country came from…that strengh and determination served us then and it will serve us now.09_11_sewing
