Strasburg, Pennsylvania Making Music

Tonight is our last night here and I really don’t want to leave. We were in a store today and a clerk noticed our CA license plates. She said “Why would you come HERE…when you could be in California?” Isn’t it funny how each of us sees the world in a different way? I guess that’s comes under the old “The grass is always greener” theory!

Tonight we sat around in a living room at the RV place and listened to incredible country and gospel music. We had this same experience a few years ago and it still has the same magic we’d found then.

There’s no amplification…no stage…8 or 10 musicians come and go as they please. One fellow will call out a song and start it and one by one the others join him. And the music swells and grows richer with each one that joins. There is never a hesitation…they know every single one of these old songs…from toe tapp’n to soft and sweet. One lady sitting near me was rock’n and knitt’n…fast or slow, according to the music! And such music…three hours of pure, nonstop joy!

We walked out with one fellow that plays one hot fiddle! We told him how much we’d enjoyed the evening. He just smiled and said “That’s what it’s all about…make’n music that people like to hear.” Well, it certainly worked!10_09_registration

I noticed this sign as we were walking into the RV place. I wonder if these Amish folk are going to sleep in their buggy tonight? Actually, they are going into the general store!
