There are a hundred Amish one-room schoolhouses in this area. That insures that no child has to walk more then a mile to school. Those hills must seem mighty high, though, to the little ones. Often you see a parent taking a very young child to school by buggy. Whenever we drove by a group of these youngsters they’d all enthusiastically wave to us.
The eighth grade is as much education as any child receives…including the teacher! But every time we’ve had one on one conversations with an Amish person they’ve been extremely articulate and knowledgeable.
