We met the nicest couple in Lowell. Mel and Darlene are building a house on the lake and staying in their RV for a bit to watch over the progress. When they heard which direction we were taking when we left…they told us about a ‘must see’ place in Grove, Oklahoma called Har-Ber Village. Thanks guys!
In all our travels this is the most unusual museum we have ever run across. It is a village with dozens and dozens of separate log buildings. Instead of displaying 1800s artifacts in a sterile environment they have placed them in context…An old time schoolhouse with the blackboard written on and the desks placed where they belong. And the doctor’s office, lacks only a patient to step inside and the post office and the jail, and the saloon…AND…AND…AND….An incredible undertaking! What a unique and wonderful idea.
Here is one of the displays, called Ned’s cabin…inside and out there are incredible details to enjoy! I can’t believe the work and thought that’s gone into this museum.
We took a leisurely walk through this shady throw-back to another time and for these hours of entertainment…what did we pay? Nothing!
