‘Holding back the Darkness’

Rick took down his ‘carving’ tent today. All we’re really waiting for now is the mail to come and then we’ll be on our way. Everyone seems to be in the middle of getting ready to pull out. And the cameras are busy recording the last few memories…

Gathering around an evening fire with friends is an event almost lost in modern society. Tonight we clustered around the heat of the fire and listened to the coyotes howl in the distance. A crackling fire held the darkness at bay. And when the wind picked up, we pulled our chairs in a little tighter to the warmth and the light and each other.

‘The Hawk’

It’s fun to discover things that are out of our area of expertise. For instance until I noticed this little mushroom growing straight out of the tree next to the RV I wasn’t aware that they came in ‘genders!’ (smile

I watched this young hawk for quite a while. Must be still in Hawk Training School.

He’s got the right idea…but his technique is a bit clumsy! Sort of ‘clunks’ to the ground instead of landing gracefully. Guess he rates about a C+ in ‘Landing 101’.09_05_hawk
