Onalaska, Wa

Rick is asleep on the couch behind me…tired from his day of fishing. Having interests apart, as well as together, is rejuvenating and we find it’s really important in extended RV travel.

I was getting tired of eating my own cooking so we asked if there was a good restaurant nearby. This is a tiny town, and all the towns around here are tiny towns, so we wondered if we were asking for the impossible. He said “Well…do you want a ‘unique’ eating experience?” Rick said, “Sure!” “In the town of Onalaska you will see a little sign that says Grandma and Grandpa’s Place…just pull in the driveway and go to the back door.”

This turned out to be ‘Grandma and Grandpa’s HOUSE and for three days a week…they’ll cook dinner for you! They are helped out by three cute young granddaughters. There is room for 18 people and they tell you “Because of the limited space you may be asked to share your table!” This is down home cooking. The rolls are home baked…and so is the desert. The chicken was fried to perfection. Home cooking at its best.6_9_grandmas_house

It’s cute inside, tidy, warm, homey and full of people enjoying themselves. The outside is full of flowers, and ‘Grandpa’ even told me what kind of fertilizer to use on my roses! Everyone there knew each other and chatted like family. Grandma held a little baby that was fussing, so the mama could finish her meal. Now that’s full service! What a nice time!
