Rockville, IN covered bridges

On little dirt back roads and two lane paved roads…around every corner, like secret surprises, are covered bridges! Most of them still in use. It’s a step back in time.

The West Union Bridge, above, was built in 1876. At 315′ it is the longest bridge in Parke County.

Locally the bridge in the distance is thought to be ‘haunted’ . I’d laugh at this except, once years ago, I took a picture of an ’empty’ covered bridge and when it was developed there was a faint impression of a woman and child in long dresses. I don’t even try to explain that…
