Oklahoma City, Ok

Lest I remember this time with nothing but bliss…It’s 8:30 in the morning and the sweat is running down my forehead! I do believe we have met the dread *humidity* that I’ve read about. The nights don’t cool down much now and losing the air conditioning would be a disaster.

We are off to Arlington Texas to see Jen, (my niece) Monte, Taylor and the NEW little guy Tyler, born on the 15th of July. Oklahoma is pretty countryside…a lot of Oak trees and, of course, the red soil that makes everything seem just that much greener.

Monte had given us very good directions but when we got to Fort Worth, Rick was checking out some construction on the bridges and missed the exit. Now…this hasn’t happened often in our marriage but when it does…count on it to be in the worst area of any major city! (One memorable trip through Watts in LA comes to mind!) Sure enough…it looked like a bombed out city. We wandered around for a while until we came upon the last bastion of civilization…A MALL. Since I needed to pick up a baby gift we parked and went in. Went into Sears and found something that I thought a discerning baby might enjoy. I asked if they had gift wrapping…she looked at me like I was from outer space! “Any where in the mall”? A slowly shaking head. “Well do you have a box”? A light dawns…she disappears for quite a while and returns with a box ,that so help me Henry, had been run over by a semi-truck! It was bent and dirty. I said “Do you have another box”? Hurt look….seems that was it…THE…box!

Rick found Jen’s house! It’s a pleasant little house in Arlington. We had a nice visit. The baby is cute…sounds like Jen has been having a mild case of the post baby blues…so the visit was well timed. They moved there shortly before Tyler was born, so Monte could take a new job, and she doesn’t know anyone. The heat has pretty much kept them house bound. Taylor, the four year old just cracks me up…He’s like a little old man in a child’s body. The things that come out of his mouth…. and in all seriousness. He passes gas…and not showing off but in this matter of fact voice says. “Not to worry, that was a little boy fart…just a little toot.”
