John Real Bird

A few days ago while we were driving through the Crow Reservation we happened across a young cowboy sauntering along on his horse and we stopped and asked if he minded if I took a couple of pictures.06_28_horsejohn

It turned out his name was John Real Bird and his family puts on the Re-enactment each year. He told us he was going to be in it and we could recognize him by the leather wristbands he was wearing that day. “I’ll be wearing them Sunday as well,” he said. We had a nice chat…I took a few pictures and we went our separate ways.

In the mist of the frantic shooting I was doing during the re-enactment up rides a fierce looking warrior, his horse dancing around me and throwing his head. “Hi…it’s me” says the Indian.” And sure enough…there were the leather wristbands. But John…the next time you want to make sure some one recognizes you, try telling them you will be PAINTED YELLOW!06_28_yellow
