Steve Prefontaine is still the greatest distance runner America has known. His records are unmatched (the number of American records he held at one time), and his tragic death in 1975 cut short a career that was only beginning.
‘Pre’ is a local legend here in Eugene and to this day greatly revered. This is a monument along side a hilly shady lane at the spot where he died. It was twenty eight years ago and there were fresh flowers here this morning…that’s love.
