Life on Wheels

July 9, 1999…..Cheney, WA

We were passing a rest stop today and there was a pickup with 5th wheel attached…the truck was fully engulfed in flames. It was hard to see…it brought back the feelings I had when we had an electrical fire in the old Establishment RV. So frightening…It was waaaay out in the middle of the long reaches of the central plains. The fire truck finally passed us going toward them.

They are doing ‘hay rides’ here at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park! And Yogi is riding along with them. The kids look really jazzed. We are parked in a forest of Ponderosa pines trees. It’s starting to warm up here now…but it’s cool under the trees.

I was lying in bed last night thinking….”There is nothing more beautiful then Ponderosa pines dark against the stars…..And then I saw them silhouetted against the pink of a sunrise. Ah…it just gets better! Sometimes Rick and I just look at each other and grin and shake our heads…It doesn’t seem possible that we are living what we dreamed of for so long.

We went into Spokane and walked around the city park. It’s a pretty place. Filled with trees, winding paths, and the music of an old fashioned carousel.

July 11, 1999…..Moscow, ID

Finally…we are at the ‘Life on Wheels’ conference. It didn’t start out well at all. They parked us between two huge motorhomes. All we could see out our windows were solid, glaring white walls. The temp in Moscow went from in the 30’s last week to the 90’s this week! And we weren’t getting a breath of breeze. We were NOT happy campers! Then the head of parking crew came around and said “I have a favor to ask you…on bended knee! We would like to move you…we need to put a big rig in this spot.” I thought “How much worse can this get?” But we packed up and Rick took down the awning and gathered the lawn chairs etc. and we moved….to a WONDERFUL spot! It’s on the corner, with no one even close to us in the front or beside us. The breeze is back!

We showed off the rig to 3 people that wanted to see inside. Someone invited me inside their RV for a peek. ’Ken’ pulled up a chair and talked to us for a long time. He’s just ordered a Lazy Daze and can’t wait to get it. He flew in for the conference and is staying at a motel. The three of us went over to the ‘welcome get-together’. They had ‘The Mountain Man’ He sang the old songs and recited cowboy poetry. Wow…! He was good! 500 people and you could have heard a pin drop. Two hours of pure entertainment!!

Up and att’m at 6:30am…groan. I forgot how hard it is to get up for school!
