Ossipee NH, Silver Lake

Spent the morning moving out of the cabin and back into the RV. And cleaning up the cabin. This little home has such an aura of love…it’s hard to explain the feeling. There are messages written on the paneling of the bathroom by guests in the past….20…30 years ago. They talk about the “marvelous times” It’s as if the cabin has known such joy, for so long, that it just wraps around you.

Paula and the girls and her mom Mimi (Marion) arrived about noon. It has turned into a crisp fall day…too cool for swimming so we decided to take a drive. Went up the Kancamagus Highway…it’s reported to be one of the most scenic drives in the United States and I can well believe it! The views, through the changing leaves, were magnificent. Clear and cool. We stopped along the road and walked down to the Swift River that runs beside the road. The girls hopped all over the rocks like little mountain goats.

Then we took a ride on the Hobo Railway in Lincoln NH. About an hour and a half ride in a restored pullman, with red plush seats, through the forest and over rivers and by lakes. It was the last run of the day so the sun slanting through the fall leaves was breathtaking. After dinner, on the ride home, we played car games…these kids are so smart and so funny.

The good-by was hard….we’ve grown to love this family in a short time. I hope we will always keep in touch…I want to watch them grow and have babies of their own. A few tears and Paula left to go back to Rochester and we curled up to sleep in the quiet of a Silver Lake night.
