Old Tucson Studios

This is the site of an old movie set that was originally built for the 1939 movie Arizona. It’s a recreation of a 1880s frontier town.

The original set we had visited years ago burnt down and this one has been built to replace it. It lost something in the ‘translation’. I guess the difference is between ‘looking old’ and ‘being old’. But for a photographer it is a fascinating place. Around every corner is a ‘little vignette’ begging to be photographed.04_15_old_tucson

We were walking by an empty saloon and heard music so we stepped inside. There was a little lady just belting out a country tune. She spotted us and gave a little wave. When she finished we gave her a hearty round of applause, which sounded a bit lonely in that big place. She jumped down off the stage, walked over and gave us both a big kiss! Said she was “testing the sound”…the show wasn’t for a couple of hours.

When we got outside we each had to ‘spit on our hanky’ and clean her ‘brand’ off each other’s cheek. That gal LOVES an audience!!
