This area has retained much of the ‘old west’ flavor. The plaza is surrounded by shops and restaurants lodged in historic buildings.
I recall, as a child, being thrilled by the daring desperadoes of the west. ‘Billy the Kid’ stands out in my mind. It was an awesome feeling to the ‘child within’ to step into the former jail where Las Cruses sheriff…Pat Garret brought ‘Billy the Kid’ to be tried and sentenced to death! Echoes of the past walk these streets.
