In the west people take their ‘hot peppers’ seriously! Personally I love this painfully delicious vegetable that causes my nose to run and my eyes to water…and if I’m not careful sets off a round of ‘hiccups’!
It’s never a bad idea to ask your waiter just ‘how’ hot IS the sauce of the day? We heard one story of a gent that disregarded the advice of not only the waiter but the more experienced friends he was with…and in a ‘macho’ gesture downed a gigantic mouthful…his throat promptly went into spasm and he fell over backwards in his chair! Ouch!
When we ate at “Little Nellies” in Las Cruces the waiter kindly brought me out a sample in a small earthen wear jar. It was PERFECT…too hot to swallow and too good to spit out
