Milton, West Virginia ‘Pastoral Scenes’

All day we drove through fall colors…not the vibrant bright yellows of Vermont…here the leaves have paled to soft harvest gold, with the occasional brilliant red to set them off.

The light rain in the morning turned the hillsides into the landscapes favored by 1800s English painters. The mist hanging in the valleys and the gentle color of drifting leaves needs only a peasant girl and a few sheep to complete the illusion.10_12_leaves
