I love Serendipity! We were just taking a ride through quiet North County, a few miles from the ocean, and spotted the sign for this beautiful Mission. It’s called “The King of the Missions” and was once the largest building in CA.
Walking through the sunken gardens or arched colonnade with its deep shadows and quiet places to sit alone in peace…it’s ‘nearly’ possible to hear the scurrying feet of Indians and the measured trod of the robed padres.
The inside of the church is cool and dim…with little splashes of sunlight playing across the rough hewn floors from windows high above.
