I don’t want to ‘name drop’ but I did have a long and interesting conversation with Robert E. Lee the other day! He, like the perfect southern gentleman he is, sprang to his feet as I neared and inquired after my health and affairs.
General Lee talked of the men that carried the “colors” during the civil war and how as one would be wounded or killed another soldier would spring forward to grab the flag before it touched the earth. And this even when he knew it would surely cost him his life.
The general also made sad mention that not everyone these days honored the American flag with such patriotic passion.
