Creede isn’t very big except in history…in that they are remarkably rich! The Creede Museum is a fascinating place. They have the most interesting exhibits and the local municipal judge…The Honorable Donavan A. Cullings to bring them alive! He is funny and he is knowledgeable. When he saw that I was interested in photography he asked if I wanted to see his favorite picture. It was of four ‘ladies of the night’ sitting on a fancy settee. And lo and be behold it was hung over what appears to be the very settee!
For a small museum they’ve tucked in an amazing amount of memorabilia…from a horse-drawn hearse to a horse-drawn fire engine.
There is a huge, heavy piano that had been brought by covered wagon. The bar piano player couldn’t read music but he left the Sear’s catalog, open on the music stand. According to the judge it was always turned to women’s undergarments…for inspiration I guess. (grin)
