Found a good place to eat nearby. The Blue Creek Lodge has home baked biscuits that are so light they practically fly off the plate! That was a happy surprise.
July 24
For the first time since we arrived the sky is dark and grey. It’s smoke from the Mesa Verde fire. The ‘Green Mesa’ isn’t green anymore. It says in the paper that the fire is nearing the ‘heart’ of the ancient ruins. It feels odd to know we were there such a short time ago and the vistas that brought such awe are being over run with flames. There is no one in the park now…I wonder if the ghosts of the ‘old ones’ watch and wait?
