Amish Acres Bristol, IN

These little piggies took ourselves out to eat tonight at a place called Amish Acres. The setting was in an 1870 Amish built barn. It was huge and it was all fitted joints…post and beam. There was nary a nail in the place.

The ‘event’ is called a ‘Thresher’s Dinner’. It’s served family style. You choose two meat dishes per table. We took fried chicken and beef. They bring out platters of each kind of meat. AND an iron kettle of thick ham and bean soup, a loaf of fresh baked bread, fresh yellow butter (a paddy the size of a plate), a crock of locally made apple butter, relishes, bowls of sweet and sour cabbage, green beans with smoked side meat, beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, sage dressing and giblet gravy!! I wonder if anyone has ever asked for more?

When you are done making what looks like a tiny dent in this array…out comes the desert tray…God have mercy!9_21_amish_produce

On the way home we stopped at this Amish farm to pick up some fresh produce. Yes…it included more tomatoes!
