Oklahoma City, OK

People spoke in whispers and wiped away tears and stood with bowed heads. I had no idea The Oklahoma City National Monument would be so moving. We all stood in the rain and grieved that violence of this kind could touch our sweet land.

The wall is covered with messages and tributes and things that break your heart. I was especially struck by a tiny wreath with toy cars that says “Happy Birthday Brady”.

The writing over the entrance reads:

WE COME HERE TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO WERE KILLED, THOSE WHO SURVIVED AND THOSE CHANGED FOREVER.

MAY ALL WHO LEAVE HERE KNOW THE IMPACT OF VIOLENCE. MAY THIS MEMORIAL OFFER COMFORT, STRENGTH, PEACE, HOPE AND SERENITY.

The arch at the end says 9:03. The arch at the other end says 9:01. Held between them, in memory…9:02 the second that not only rocked a city…but a nation.

Across the street part of a Church was also destroyed. A large statue of Jesus stands there alone…

The simple inscription says it all

‘AND JESUS WEPT’
