Honest Abe’s stepmom

I know it’s hard to believe but I chatted with Abe’s beloved step mom today in the last home she and Thomas, his father, lived before they died. In Charleston IL. This cabin is lovely…both well preserved and beautifully detailed. I fall so easily into the past in these historical reenactments. She was sewing a rip up in one of the ‘young’un’s’ shirts. I wonder if it was Abe’s. (smile)

By the way, when she found I was from California she asked me to point it out on the map. It, ahem, seems I ‘really’ live in The Mexican territories!

And in the Shiloh cemetery nearby I stood at the grave of his father where Lincoln must have once stood with bowed head and grieved. When the bird’s sweet song drifted across the headstones I wondered if he had heard them too…long ago.09_22_lincoln
