I stumbled out of bed at 4:00a.m, put a coat on over my pajamas, and walked out into a cold Colorado mountain night. In the absolute stillness the towering pines were clearly silhouetted against the brightness of the stars. The stars seem unreal up here…so many more than we ever see elsewhere and so close I can almost scoop them up in my hand.
Hanging over it all was a great glowing orange moon. My breath stopped for a second in wonder at the sight. What must the ancient ones have thought? It was all I could do not to fall to ‘my’ knees and I knew what it was!! But all scientific reasons simply fell away…this was a pure moment of majesty and magic.
